The State Revenue Office facilitates presentations as a component of its ongoing education strategies to increase the knowledge and awareness of state taxation laws and specific taxation requirements for individual tax areas.

During 2009-10 the following presentations have been delivered to student groups:

Graduate Diploma in Legal Studies



The Graduate Diploma in Legal Studies is the Qualification gained by law students after they have completed the Professional Legal Training Program conducted by the Centre of Legal Studies Ltd, Hobart, Tasmania.

The State Revenue Office is one of numerous organisations who provide presentations to students undertaking this course of study. The following topic areas were presented during March and April 2010

Land Tax



The objective of this presentation was to provide students with an understanding of:
  • what Land Tax is, including land classifications;
  • who is required to pay Land Tax;
  • when Land Tax is payable;
  • the recovery of Land Tax and debtor management;
  • grouping of related companies; and
  • common errors and pitfalls.

Duties



The objective of this presentation was to provide students with an understanding of:
  • what transactions involve payment of Duties;
  • Duty implications on Transfer of Property;
  • what transactions are treated as transfers;
  • Duty concessions;
  • objections, reviews and appeals; and
  • common errors and pitfalls.

First Home Owner Grant



The objective of this presentation was to provide students with an understanding of:
  • what the First Home Owner Grant is;
  • who can receive a First Home Owner Grant;
  • the application and payment process; and
  • Compliance activities.

Certificate III in Business Administration (Legal)



During 2009 the State Revenue Office presented to students undertaking study for the Certificate III in Business Administration (Legal) course at the Tasmanian Skills Institute. In addition, entry level staff from Southern Tasmanian law firms were offered to opportunity to also attend the presentation.
