The Department of Treasury and Finance has released a summary of the issues that were raised during the consultation period on the draft Water and Sewerage Industry (Community Service Obligation) Bill 2009 and the draft Water and Sewerage Industry (Community Service Obligation) Regulations 2009. The Water and Sewerage Industry (Community Service Obligation) Act 2009 commenced on 4 September 2009 and the regulations are expected to commence by the end of September 2009. The Department of Treasury and Finance has released draft Water and Sewerage Industry (Customer Service Standards) Regulations 2009 for consultation, together with an accompanying Fact Sheet: Fact Sheet - Draft Water and Sewerage Industry (Customer Service Standards) Regulations 2009. Comments on the draft regulations are requested by the close of business on Friday 18 September 2009. Tasmanians wanting to find out more about Tasmania’s water and sewerage reform can now phone the water and sewerage corporations directly on 13MYWATER (13 6992) to have their questions answered. On 21 April 2009 a formal period of consultation commenced regarding further legislative and subordinate legislative changes associated with water and sewerage reform. Further details are available here. The Treasurer Hon. Michael Aird MLC released the draft Interim Price Order for the Water and Sewerage Sector on 15 April 2009. Overview On 26 September 2006, the Premier announced the creation of a Ministerial Water and Sewerage Taskforce (the Taskforce). The Taskforce is comprised of the Treasurer (Chair), the Minister for Primary Industries and Water and the Minister for Tourism, Arts and the Environment. The primary objective of the Taskforce is to identify ways of achieving major long-term improvements in Tasmania’s water and sewerage services and infrastructure, through a collaborative approach with local Government.
