The Department in brief

The Department of Treasury and Finance is the central agency responsible for managing the State Government's financial resources and for implementing strategies to achieve the Government's economic and financial objectives.

We provide the Government with advice on the economic and financial management of the State; carry out financial analysis, monitoring and reporting; and undertake tax collection, regulatory and compliance activities. We also provide administrative support to the statutory bodies responsible for collecting State revenue, regulating gaming and liquor licensing, and for regulating the energy supply industry and examining the pricing policies of certain monopoly Government businesses.

The Department's budget for 2007-08 was $48 490 000 and on 30 June 2008 we employed 332 people.

The Department's main office is at 21 Murray Street, Hobart, with tax, licensing and gaming administration located at 80 Elizabeth Street, Hobart, and Henty House in Launceston. Treasury staff are also located on Level 5 at 111 Macquarie Street, Hobart.
