Our performance

Community Support Levy (Budget Output 4.3)

The Revenue, Gaming and Licensing Division collects the Community Support Levy funds. Each year these funds are distributed to assist in the prevention of compulsive gambling, the treatment or rehabilitation of compulsive gamblers, community education and other health services. They are also distributed to charitable, sport and recreation organisations. The Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Economic Development and Tourism provide administrative support.

Anzac Day Trust and Royal Society of Tasmania (Budget Output 4.4)

The annual contribution was paid to the Anzac Day Trust in accordance with the provisions of the Anzac Day Observance Act 1929. The Trust distributes the funds to returned services organisations to help in providing welfare benefits for eligible members and families. An annual payment was made to the Royal Society of Tasmania to assist with the printing of papers.

Tasmanian Community Fund

The Department of Treasury and Finance provides executive support to the Tasmanian Community Fund Board. Two full-time officers are responsible to the Board for the day-to-day management of the Fund, with other support provided in finances and website maintenance. The Board provides grants to community organisations and is independent of government.

In 2007–08, the Board awarded 115 grants totalling $4.32 million, bringing the total funding awarded since the Fund was established to more than $35 million for 977 projects. Some of the grants awarded in 2007-08 were:

$145 084 to Sea Rescue Tasmania Inc for the purchase of a replacement sea rescue vessel to be based at Dodges Ferry.

$37 872 to Devonfield Enterprises to supply and install vinyl weatherboard cladding to Mac Wright House – a facility offering transitional accommodation to people with disabilities.
