Four committees have oversight of specific aspects of the Department’s operations:

  • Audit and Risk Management Committee;
  • Financial Assets and Borrowings Management Committee;
  • Information and Communications Steering Committee; and
  • Procurement Review Committee.

The Audit and Risk Management Committee supports the governance, audit and risk management activities of the Department. The Committee is responsible for quality assurance of financial management and reporting, and the management of key risks. It maintains a robust internal quality control framework for the whole Department and advises the Executive on the need for changes to the framework or associated processes.

The Financial Assets and Borrowings Management Committee manages the State debt portfolio in line with the Government’s debt management framework. It also has responsibility for managing the State’s financial assets through the repayment of debt on maturity, investing for higher returns, and managing the levels of gross debt and financial assets in accordance with the Government’s Fiscal Strategy.

The main responsibilities of the Information and Communication Steering Committee are ensuring that the information resources of the Department are effective in supporting business processes and extending corporate knowledge and that the processes for capturing, storing, accessing and disposing of information are efficient. The Committee establishes strategic direction in relation to technology infrastructure, applications development and support; the internal and external websites; and information security. It also deals with all information management and communications issues, and makes sure that Treasury complies with whole-of-government initiatives, such as the Tasmanian Government Information Security Charter and Framework.

The Procurement Review Committee reviews the procurement process for all goods and services and for building and construction contracts valued at $50 000 or more. This review takes place before a quotation is accepted or a contract awarded. The purpose is to ensure that the process was fair and equitable and consistent with the principles outlined in the Treasurer’s Instructions.
