Legislation enacted in 2008–09
During the financial year, 15 pieces of legislation that are Treasury’s responsibility were enacted.
However, the list does not include legislation which may have been introduced during 2008–09, but not finalised by Parliament before the end of the financial year. Conversely, it includes legislation that was introduced into Parliament in 2007–08, but not enacted until 2008–09.
Consolidated Fund Appropriation Act (No. 1) 2008 (No. 24 of 2008)

This was the primary 2008–09 Budget Act. It provided for the appropriation of $3.5 billion from the Consolidated Fund to meet costs associated with the provision of government services for the financial year ending on 30 June 2009. The Act also authorised the Treasurer to borrow money on behalf of the State.
Consolidated Fund Appropriation Act (No. 2) 2008 (No. 25 of 2008)

This was the second of the two Budget Acts. This Act provided for the appropriation of $19.6 million from the Consolidated Fund for costs associated with Parliament and the provision of services from the Ombudsman, the Tasmanian Audit Office and the Office of the Governor for the financial year ending on 30 June 2009.
Consolidated Fund Appropriation (Supplementary Appropriation for 2008–09) Act 2008 (No. 28 of 2008)

This Act provided for the appropriation of money from the Consolidated Fund for the service of the financial year ending on 30 June 2009 for the purpose of making a contribution to Division 4, Finance General, of Part 2 of Schedule 1 to the Consolidated Fund Appropriation Act (No. 1) 2008.
Tamar Valley Power Station Act 2008 (No. 29 of 2008)

This Act provided for the purchase, by Aurora Energy Pty Ltd, of the Tamar Valley Power Station from Babcock and Brown Power Limited.
Taxation and Related Legislation (Miscellaneous Amendments) (No. 2) Act 2008 (No. 46 of 2008)

This Act made miscellaneous amendments to the Duties Act 2001, the First Home Owner Grant Act 2000, the Land Tax Act 2000, the Land Titles Act 1980, the Payroll Tax Act 2008, the Strata Titles Act 1998 and the Taxation Administration Act 1997.
Audit Act 2008 (No. 50 of 2008)

This Act established a separate Audit Act which provides for the audit of public finances, strengthens the independence of the Auditor-General and broadens the scope of the Auditor-General’s authority in relation to entities that are controlled by Government.

Water and Sewerage (Consequential and Transitional) Act 2008 (No. 52 of 2008)

An Act to amend certain Acts consequential on the enactment of the Water and Sewerage Corporations Act 2008 and the Water and Sewerage Industry Act 2008 and to enact transitional provisions consequential on the enactment of the Water and Sewerage Industry Act 2008.
Government Business Enterprises and State-owned Companies Legislation Amendment Act 2009 (No. 1 of 2009)

This Act amended the Government Business Enterprises Act 1995 and a number of Acts providing for the establishment of State-owned companies in relation to the imposition and payment of guarantee fees by Government businesses. In addition, the Forestry Act 1920 was amended to provide for the board of directors and chief executive officer of the Forestry Corporation to be appointed under the Government Business Enterprises Act 1995.
Nation Building and Jobs Plan Facilitation (Tasmania) Act 2009 (No. 5 of 2009)

This Act facilitates and expedites the implementation in Tasmania of the national partnership agreement on nation building and jobs between the Australian and the various States and Territories.

This Act provided for the sale of shares in, or the business of, TOTE Tasmania and its subsidiaries, to consequentially amend the TOTE Tasmania Act 2000, to repeal and revoke certain legislation and for related purposes.
Gaming Control Amendment Act 2009 (No 9 of 2009)

This Act amended the Gaming Control Act 1993 and repealed the Racing (Totalizator Betting) Act 1952 and TOTE Tasmania (Racing Regulation) Act 2004.

Public Works Committee Amendment Act 2009 (No. 21 of 2009)

This Act amended the Public Works Committee Act 1914 by increasing the limit above which public works must be referred to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Works, from the previous $2 million to $5 million and expanding the scope of works to be referred to the Committee from only Consolidated Funded works to any public works project undertaken by a general government sector body, regardless of the source of the funding.
Water and Sewerage Legislation (Miscellaneous Amendments) Act 2009 (No. 24 of 2009)

This Act primarily made amendments to the Water and Sewerage Industry Act 2008 to provide the new water and sewerage corporations with an interface to the building and plumbing permit approval process and made supporting amendments to the Building Act 2000 in this respect.
