Our responsibilities
Treasury and Finance is structured as four Divisions, with each Division aligned to a key responsibility of the Department. These responsibilities are defined as objectives for corporate planning purposes and as Agency Outcomes for Budget purposes. Each year the goods and services – the Outputs – that the Department is required to deliver to the community are determined by the Government and funded through the Budget process.
The Budget and Finance and Economic and Financial Policy Divisions, are each headed by a Deputy Secretary. Revenue, Gaming and Licensing is headed by an Executive Director, and Corporate Support by a Director. Each Division consists of a number of branches. A Director or an Assistant Director heads each Branch.
The Office of the Secretary is responsible for strategic oversight and provides executive support and secretariat services. The Office reports directly to the Secretary.
The Department provides administrative support to the Commissioner of State Revenue and the Commissioner for Licensing, and also to four associated entities: the Government Prices Oversight Commission, the Licensing Board of Tasmania; the Tasmanian Gaming Commission; and the Tasmanian Economic Regulator in his capacities as Water and Sewerage Economic Regulator, Director of Gas and Electricity Regulator.
Six statutory authorities that report to the Treasurer fall within our administrative responsibilities: the Anzac Day Trust, the Retirement Benefits Fund Board, the State Grants Commission, the Tasmanian Community Fund and the Tasmanian Public Finance Corporation.
