The Tasmanian Government is committed to increasing the transparency and accountability of Government. A review of Tasmania’s financial management framework has been underway over the past few years, and notable progress has been made with the passage of the Charter of Budget Responsibility Act 2007 and the Audit Act 2008. On 18 November 2010, the Treasurer released a Position Paper, Review of Tasmania’s Financial Management Framework. The Paper has been issued to obtain the views of stakeholders in relation to the current phase of the review, which focuses on enhancing transparency, accountability and the relationship between Parliament and the Executive through the modernisation of the Public Account Act 1986 and the financial provisions of the Financial Management and Audit Act 1990. The initial consultation period closed on 28 February 2011. Responses were received from a number of stakeholders and an Update document summarising issues raised is now available on the website. Treasury is currently in the process of drafting the Financial Management Bill 2011 and an Exposure Draft will be issued to all stakeholders for further comment once this has been finalised. |
