The Board is an independent body responsible for:
- hearing applications for new liquor licences and, in accordance with the Liquor Licensing Act 1990, making decisions that are in the best interests of the community;
- determining applications by the Commissioner for Licensing to cancel or suspend liquor licences or permits; and
- hearing appeals made against decisions of the Commissioner.
The Board is separate and independent from the Commissioner for Licensing, and a decision of the Board is final and without appeal.
A case may be made to the Supreme Court on a question of law arising from the hearing of an application or appeal.
The Board sits (on average) two days a month alternating between the north and the south of the State, dependent upon the source and nature of applications.
