Schedule of Hearings and Visits.

In accordance with the Local Government (Financial Assistance) Act 1995 the Commission holds annual hearings which councils, media representatives and the public are invited to attend.

The preliminary timetable for the 2007 Hearings and Visits is:

Council Region	Date
Southern	Week ending 9 March 2007
Northwestern	Week ending 23 March 2007
Northern	Week ending 6 April 2007

When details are finalised the hearings are advertised in the public notice sections of the Mercury, Advocate and Examiner newspapers at least one month prior to these hearing dates.

Current Research Focus

The Commission is currently reviewing elements of the base grant distribution methodology, specifically in relation to the assessment methods for both revenue-raising capacity and water and sewerage expenditure.

Following consultation with councils, the Commission will publish a timetable for the introduction of further amendments to the assessment methodology. This timetable will aim to provide a certain amount of stability for the distribution of funds over the next few years.

Discussion papers will be provided to councils and posted on this website ahead of the 2007 hearings and visits, and council input will be invited through submissions and comments during the hearings and visits process.
