The Liquor and Gaming Branch supports the Tasmanian Liquor and Gaming Commission and the Commissioner for Licensing in the administration and regulation of gaming and liquor licensing in Tasmania. The Branch also provides advice to Government on liquor and gaming policy​. As the Director, I oversee the work of the Branch across licensing operations, compliance and policy.

I studied Arts and Law at the University of Tasmania. After graduating, I worked as a litigation lawyer for about seven years specialising in workers compensation. In 2011, I was approached to establish and run a new service for injured workers: Worker Assist. I established the service as a community legal centre and became the Principal Solicitor. I worked in this role until 2016, when I commenced work with the Department of Treasury and Finance as a Principal Policy Analyst before becoming the Assistant Director in the Procurement, Risk and Contract Management Branch. I have since been promoted to my current role in Liquor and Gaming.

I was attracted to move to Treasury from my legal career by a job-share arrangement, working two days a week, as this fitted in well with caring for two small children. Working as a lawyer hadn't allowed me the flexibility to spend the time with my children that I wanted to so I made a conscious decision to step away from my career. What I didn't expect was that I would find a career in the public service which I love more than my work as a lawyer. The fantastic thing about Treasury is that it actively focuses on supporting flexible work arrangements for everyone and particularly supports opportunities for women in leadership roles.

The other thing I like about Treasury is the people. They are professional, dedicated and passionate about the work they do.

My parents are key to my success because they were very focused on giving me the best education they could. Supporting me do the work I do now, I have a very supportive husband and children.

I have been lucky enough to have a few people take a particular interest in my career over the years and to them, I am also incredibly grateful. At Treasury in particular, there are a number of people who have been particularly supportive of me. They have encouraged and supported me to develop my career. This is something Treasury does better than anywhere else I have worked: to support and develop people to achieve their goals.

My family and I love to ski. We particularly love to ski at Ben Lomond as much as we can in the winter and every few years we aim to travel overseas and ski. Our favourite place so far is Italy but we have many, many more places to try out!​
