I currently work as a Graduate Financial Analyst in the Policy and Actuals area of the Government Finance and Accounting branch of Treasury. In my short time with Treasury, I have been fortunate enough to assist with some big governmental projects, the daily running of departmental financials, as well as some customer focused projects which have been really rewarding.

The Treasury Graduate Program rotates its graduates through the Government Finance and Accounting Branch and Budget Management Branch, giving us exposure to a huge variety of projects and skills whilst studying for our professional CPA or CA qualifications. It has been wonderful being surrounded by the group of graduates and other staff currently studying towards their CPA and CA certifications, this leads to a very supportive and cooperative environment when balancing work and study commitments.

I started on my path to my current role at Treasury with my undergraduate Bachelor of Business degree at the University of Tasmania. After graduating, I knew that I wanted to work in the public service, I was attracted to the flexibility and opportunities for career development and progression at Treasury. Prior to my graduation and transition to the public service, I worked as a drama tutor locally, which I loved but did not provide opportunities for career advancement. I worked first for the Office of the Valuer General in the Department of Natural Resources, which is where I first learnt of the Treasury Finance Graduate Program. Despite my degree, I was unsure if my primarily teaching background would be enough qualification for the program. I was reassured to learn that Treasury seeks to attract a diverse skillset in their workforce and that the graduate program is treated as a learning opportunity, with consistent mentorship.

Joining Treasury has been like being welcomed into a new family. Everyone is invested in the success and development of those around them and I have been so supported in starting my journey to study for my CPA certification. Already I have been given ample opportunity for professional training and encouragement in the time needed for my studies.

Having grown up locally in Hobart, I love working in such a central location and in such a gorgeous historic building. I have been very fortunate to have the endless support of my parents through my study and early career, they instilled the value of education and the love of continuous learning in a broad range of topics.

When I am not working or studying, I am taking care of my growing indoor garden or seeing a bit more of Tassie! I love visiting Richmond any time and especially the central highlands in the winter. It is a great spot to disconnect from the busy world, get some reading in and the fluffy highland cows are worth the trip alone.
