The Have Your Say – Pre-Budget Consultation period is 20 October 2025 to 7 December 2025.
What is Pre-Budget Consultation
Each year the Government seeks input from Tasmanians to help shape the State Budget. This ensures that all Tasmanians can have a say on the State's budget priorities and policies and how the Government can ensure a fair and sustainable base to fund these initiatives.
This process continues to evolve, and to be refined, to ensure it remains meaningful, inclusive and responsive to the needs of the community.
For 2026-27 the process has been renamed, from State Budget Community Consultation, in line with the Government's Public Submissions Policy.
The Pre-Budget Consultation process is coordinated by the Department of Treasury and Finance, with submissions considered by the relevant agencies.
Submission Form
For 2026-27, the submission process has been streamlined into a single Submission form. You must use this form for your submission. All fields are optional, you are welcome to respond to as many or as few as you wish.

This form includes five guiding questions to help focus feedback:
- Which programs/projects could be refocused to deliver core outcomes with more streamlined resources or refined focus?
- Are there initiatives or investments that could be reconsidered helping balance the budget now, without losing sight of long-term goals?
- Are there programs or services that could be transitioned out as the needs of Tasmanians evolve and priorities shift?
- Where could government activities be re-calibrated to operate more effectively, while still meeting essential needs?
- For any new funding ideas (specifying whether operational or capital), what savings or offsets could be identified elsewhere to ensure the overall budget remains balanced?
As part of your submission, you will be asked to nominate the portfolio area (e.g. Health, Education, Sport) that best matches the focus of your feedback. This helps ensure your submission is directed to the most relevant Minister and agency for consideration. Please select the portfolio that most closely aligns with the subject matter of your submission, even if your feedback spans multiple areas. A list of portfolios is provided in the Submission form and further information can be found at the Cabinet website.If you have additional material you would like to include, you are welcome to attach it. Supporting documents are entirely optional and not expected.When are Submissions due?
Submissions must be received by Sunday 7 December 2025.
Submissions should be sent via email to communityconsultation@treasury.tas.gov.au, attaching your completed Submission form and any supplementary documents.
What Happens Next?
Treasury will acknowledge receipt of all Submissions.
After submissions close, they are reviewed by relevant agencies. Submissions from the Pre-Budget Consultation process may inform the development, prioritisation and costing of new policy proposals to be considered by Government during the development of the 2026-27 Budget.
It is the responsibility of the relevant agency to review Pre-Budget Consultation submissions and to provide a response through the relevant Minister where appropriate.
