Economic Regulator Act 2009 and Competitive Neutrality Policy - Discussion Paper

The Government is undertaking a review of the Economic Regulator Act 2009 and Tasmania's Competitive Neutrality Policy.

The Economic Regulator Act establishes the Tasmanian Economic Regulator as an independent statutory body to provide prices oversight of Government bodies that are monopoly, or near monopoly, suppliers of goods or services in Tasmania. The Act is intended to promote fairness, transparency and accountability in the pricing practices of government entities.

Competitive neutrality aims to remove any net competitive advantage arising from public sector ownership, thereby levelling the playing field between publicly-owned and other businesses, to promote the efficient allocation of resources.

As part of the review a discussion paper has been prepared, with interested parties encouraged to make a submission.

Discussion Paper - Review of the Economic Regulator Act 2009 and Competitive Neutrality Policy

The discussion paper provides guiding questions to assist stakeholders when preparing a submission. However, feedback is also welcomed on any other parts of the Economic Regulator Act or competitive neutrality policy that are not explicitly addressed in the paper.
