Mandatory Code Review 2022

Consultation opens 13 May 2022

Consultation closes 25 June 2022

The Responsible Gambling Mandatory Code of Practice for Tasmania was first introduced in 2012 and established a range of measures to achieve gambling harm minimisation. The Tasmanian Liquor and Gaming Commission is reviewing the Code (in accordance with the Gaming Control Act 1993) to ensure that the harm minimisation measures within it continue to be effective, relevant and sufficient.

To inform the Review, the Commission has released the following Stakeholder Consultation Paper that considers the Code's effectiveness in light of the Government's future gaming market reforms, identifying a number of proposals to strengthen player protection.

The Consultation Paper takes into account findings of the following independent desktop study, completed by Stenning and Associates Pty Ltd in late 2021. This report compares Tasmania's Code with harm minimisation frameworks in other Australian jurisdictions, identifies changes since the 2017 review and considers expected impacts of the new reforms on gambling behaviour.

The information gained from this consultation process will assist the Commission in completing its assessment of the Code and in determining whether any enhancements are necessary prior to the implementation of the reforms.

Submissions must be received by 25 June 2022 and lodged in writing by email to or mailed and addressed to:
