Tipping

​​​​For Tipping, the total amount paid by all the players to play the game must not be more than $10,000. It also has restrictions on the maximum amount any one player may pay to play.  

​Some of the money paid by players can be used for charitable fundraising purposes, and all the rest of the money must be returned to players as prizes. The operator may not make a profit or deduct any expenses.  


Conditions

Tipping competitions relating to sporting events, are subject to the following conditions:
  • the total contributions do not exceed $10,000;
  • a single participant does not contribute more than $150;
  • either:
    • the total contributions, without any deduction, are distributed to participants as prizes in money or money’s worth; or
    • at least 80 per cent percent of the total contributions is distributed to participants as prizes in money or money’s worth, and the remaining contributions, without any deduction, are used for the lawful purposes of a not-for-profit organisation or a charitable purpose and not for the private gain or benefit of any person except by way of charity;
  • sufficient information is provided in advance to enable participants to reasonably understand the rules of the game; and
  • sufficient records are retained to reasonably demonstrate compliance with these conditions.​​
