Managing jackpots and wins

Venue operators are responsible for paying all electronic gaming machine (EGM) winnings including jackpot prizes.

Jackpots

There are three different types of jackpots you can operate in your venue:

  • fixed jackpots
  • standalone progressive jackpots (SAP)
  • linked progressive jackpot (LP)

Details of all approved EGM games, jackpots and linked jackpot rules approved by the Tasmanian Liquor and Gaming Commission can be obtained from the Licensed Monitoring Operator (Maxgaming).

You will need to contact Maxgaming if you want to remove a game and related jackpot operating in your venue.

Playing wins

If you operate gaming machine, you will be responsible for paying all winnings, including jackpot prizes.

You will be required to maintain separate bank accounts for financial transactions arising from the conduct of gaming.

If you operate linked jackpots, you must have additional financial arrangements and a separate bank account to cover the value of 50 per cent of the ceiling amount of the top level of the linked progressive jackpots in your venue. Further, should the balance of the top-level jackpot exceed 50 per cent of the ceiling amount, you must increase the amount held to cover the balance of the jackpot as at the first day of each month.

Liquor and Gaming Branch inspectors may undertake audits of your gaming bank accounts.

Part payment of EGM and keno wins

For payments of wins over $1 000, venue operators are allowed to pay the first $1 000 as cash, with
the balance to be paid by cheque or EFT transfer.

For the portion of win over $1 000, venues have the option of making a part payment where the
cheque or EFT component can be paid within 1 business day.

For venues operating keno, there is no longer a required minimum amount that you have to pay the
customer in cash at the time of the win.
