When you apply for a liquor licence:- you must be qualified to hold a liquor licence.
- the licence being applied for must be suitable for the intended business activities.
- application fees are non-refundable.
- all requested documents must be provided.
- your application may be refused if the Commissioner considers that the requirements of the Act have not been met.
Qualify to be granted a liquor licence
A person is qualified to be granted a liquor licence if:
- they are 18 years old or older.
- they are a fit and proper person.
- they are able to exercise effective control over the service, and any consumption, of liquor on the licensed premises.
- they have completed an approved Responsible service of alcohol course.
Fit and proper
This criteria considers whether the applicant understands their obligations under the Act and has the intention and capacity to carry out those obligations, including acting with honesty and integrity to minimise harm arising from the misuse of liquor. Associates of the applicant are also assessed to determine whether they are fit and proper.
Applicant considerations
Considerations include whether an applicant:
- has any relevant criminal convictions;
- is financially sound; and
- is of good repute, integrity and character.
