Exercising effective control

You will need to be able to demonstrate how you will ensure the responsible sale and service of liquor at your premises, to keep people safe and minimise the risk of harm through the misuse of liquor.

Considerations include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervision over the service of liquor.
  • Monitoring for and prevention of intoxication.
  • When and how you stop or refuse service.
  • What you may do if someone considers drink driving.
  • How you will limit the exposure of liquor to children.
  • What policies, procedures and staff training are in place.
  • What control measures are in place such as signs or identification checks.
  • An understanding of the day-to-day operations of the licensed premises.
  • If managing multiple premises, how will this be carried out? How often will you be at a premises, are you contactable if needed, and how quickly can you respond to any issues?
