Multi-vendor permit

Multi-Vendor Permit fact sheet

A multi-vendor permit allows event organisers, as the permit holder, to manage liquor sales from multiple independent vendors under a single liquor permit. This centralised approach ensures consistent compliance with liquor laws, simplifies administration, and supports the responsible service of alcohol.

A multi-vendor permit should be used for the following type of event:

  • food festivals eg. Taste of Summer, Festivale.
  • markets and shows eg. Agfest, Royal Hobart Show.
  • any other events where there are multiple liquor vendors wishing to sell liquor for sale and consumption of liquor both on and off the premises eg. Wine Fest, Ginuary.

Responsibilities of the permit holder

It is the responsibility of the permit holder to:

  • exercise effective control over the sale and consumption of liquor at the event.
  • ensure the responsible sale and service of liquor.
  • ensure that the sale and consumption of liquor does not cause undue annoyance or disturbance to the surrounding community and/or amenities.
  • ensure all vendors comply with the liquor permit conditions.
  • provide evidence demonstrating the right to occupy the event space for the proposed activity. Acceptable forms of evidence may include a lease agreement, title documents, written permission from the owner, or approval from the local council.

Benefits

The benefits of a single multi-vendor permit versus separate permits for each liquor vendor include:

  • One fee – only one permit fee is payable.
  • Consistent conditions that all vendors adhere to, which means it is easier to enforce responsible service of alcohol and compliance measures.
  • One permit holder – one person holds responsibility for all liquor sales and can set their own house policies as to how liquor is to be sold and consumed (in conjunction with the permit conditions).
  • Flexibility – suitable for both small-scale and large-scale events with diverse liquor offerings.
  • Efficiency – speeds up the approval process and reduces duplication across vendors
