Redundancy information for employers

Working together to support members

RBF is committed to providing the highest level of service to defined benefit members who are being considered for redundancy. To assist RBF in achieving this commitment, where possible, we request that employers notify the RBF Principal Employer Support and Education Officer of any upcoming redundancy programs.

Employees expressing an interest in redundancy can be referred to a RBF Superannuation Consultant (free of charge).

The RBF Consultant can provide the member with redundancy benefit estimates and details.
Please note that:
  • a Workplace Renewal Incentive Program (WRIP) payment is not a redundancy for RBF purposes; and
  • RBF cannot provide employers with details of estimates unless authorised in writing to do so by the member.
To make an appointment with a Superannuation Consultant, members can call the RBF Enquiry Line on 1800 622 631.

What happens next?

Where the employee accepts a formal offer of redundancy, the employer provides RBF with termination advice through usual reporting channels. Redundancy should be included as the reason for termination.
RBF will process the redundancy and provide the RBF member with a Benefit Options Summary which will outline their benefit and payment options.
After the member returns the ‘Payment instructions’ form and any other required information, RBF will process the redundancy benefit and make that payment as soon as possible.
For any employer queries relating to redundancy programs contact the RBF Principal Employer Support and Education Officer.

Further information

If a member wishes to discuss their benefit options, we strongly encourage them to call the RBF Enquiry Line on 1800 622 631 to make an appointment with an RBF Superannuation Consultant.
