Gaming Community Support Levy

Four per cent of the gross profit derived from gaming machines in hotels and clubs in Tasmania is paid into the Community Support Levy (CSL).

The Minister must distribute the CSL in the following manner:
  • 25 per cent for the benefit of sport and recreation clubs;
  • 25 per cent for the benefit of charitable organisations; and
  • 50 per cent for the provision of:
    • research into gambling;
    • services for the prevention of compulsive gambling;
    • treatment for the rehabilitation of compulsive gamblers;
    • community education concerning gambling; and
    • other health services.
Each year the Tasmanian Liquor and Gaming Commission, through its Annual Report, produces a list of all projects funded through the CSL. The Annual Reports can be located here​.
 
The Commission is not responsible for approving or monitoring individual project allocation or expenditure. Those functions lie with the agencies where the Gambling Support Program and Sport and Recreation are located.

Grant applications for charitable organisation

The Gambling Suppor​t Program has responsibility for making recommendations to the Minister for expenditure against the 25 per cent component of the CSL for the benefit of charitable organisations and the 50 per cent component for the provision of gambling research; community education; gambling rehabilitation and treatment; and other health services.

Grant applications for sport and recreation

Spo​rt a​nd Recreation​​​ has responsibility for making recommendations to the Minister for expenditure against the remaining 25 per cent of the CSL for the benefit of sporting organisations.
